Moët & Chandon Champagne
One of the most prestigious champagne’s in the world is Moët & Chandon. You know from the moment that you see the label that you are about to partake of something special. The name is synonymous with luxury. Moët & Chandon is one of the world’s largest champagne producers. It is admired internationally as a premier luxury brand champagne.
However, there are a few facts that you might not know about this wonderful champagne.
🌟 Moët et Cie (Moët and Company) was founded in 1743 by Claude Moët who was a wine trader. However, it was his grandson Jean-Remy Moët who built the company to the status of an international luxury brand. Known for his strong ambition, his drive elevated Moët to a whole new level.
🌟The correct pronunciation of Moët is to pronounce the “t” at the end – ‘Mo-Wett’.
🌟 The Imperial trademark was named in honor of Napoleon who was a close friend and champagne enthusiast. Napoleon is known for famously saying:
“In victory you deserve champagne, in defeat you need it.”
🌟It is alleged that Napoleon would saber bottles of Moët champagne to celebrate his victories on the battle field.
🌟 In 1832, when Jean-Rémy retired, his son Victor Moët and son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles took the reigns. It was renamed officially that same year to Moët et Chandon.
🌟The House has a Royal Warrant to supply champagne to Elizabeth II of England. It was selected as the champagne of choice for Charles and Diana’s wedding.
🌟Their vintage champagne, produced by Moët & Chandon, is named after Dom Pérignon, who was a Benedictine monk. He was recognized for discovering how to create sparkling wine. The champagne line, Dom Pérignon is considered their vintage champagne. It is only harvested in the best possible years and left to age for 12 years.
🌟In 1987, Moët & Chandon merged with Louis Vuitton and Hennessy to become the largest luxury group in the world and continues to grow.
🌟Moët-Hennessy company founded Domaine Chandon which was the first French owned sparkling wine in the US. Their vineyards and sparkling wines are located in Napa Valley in Northern California.
🌟Roger Federer, a Swiss professional tennis player, is the current ambassador for Moët & Chandon Champagne. Scarlett Johansson was previously the ambassador.
🌟In 2016, Moët & Chandon replaced Mumm Champagne as the official sponsor of champagne at the Formula 1 races.
